A simple yet effective technique using Sugar Vanilla Stencils

You will need:

Edibles

Equipment

  • one cupcake, flat iced with buttercream
  • pink edible lustre dusts
  • white fondant
  • Sugar Vanilla Stencils British flowers Set 1 stencil; using the dog rose design
  • flat stencil sponge
  • 65mm round cutter
  • non-stick board
  • rolling pin
  • palette knife

1

Roll the fondant to 3mm thick. Place the stencil on top and roll over once or twice. This pushes the fondant up into the stencil design.

2

Put a small amount of lustre dust in a palette and lightly dab with the sponge. Do not overload the sponge.

3

Holding the sponge perpendicular to the fondant, gently rub the lustre dust over the stencil in circular motions. You should have no excess lustre dust on the stencil.

4

Gently pull the stencil away from the fondant, starting from a top edge and pulling towards you.

5

Cut around the stencil using a round cutter. Lift using a palette knife. Gently place on top of the cupcake and tap around the edges to smooth.

Top Tip!

This method is particularly effective with metallic lustre dusts as you can create a wonderful burnished effect.
