1Using a knife, create a dome of buttercream on the cupcake and cover with a circle of skin tone sugarpaste slightly bigger than the cupcake. |

2Use a ball tool to mark where the eyes and nose should go, then cut a ball of paste in half and attach with glue for ears. |

3With an edible pen, draw a line starting above one ear and going across above one eye for an eye patch string. |

4Using a cutter or an open tube, cut out circles of white paste and press them down on top of rolled out red paste. |

5Place a sheet of baking paper over the top of the red paste and spots and carefully roll over the top of it. |

6Use the same large circle cutter you used to cut the faces out, to cut spotty circles and then cut them in half using a pizza cutter. |

7Stick the spotty semi-circles onto the faces above the eyes at a slight angle, trimming further if necessary. |

8Use a flat tool or knife to create different mouth shapes. |

9Create the facial features and bandana knot from paste, making them all a little different to add character. |

10Glue them in place and then add stubble and scars using an edible pen. |

11Create a map shape from card and use it as a template to cut maps out of thinly rolled modelling paste with a scalpel. |

12Using a little brown and yellow dust mixed with vodka, create a wash to discolour the maps and paint it on with a brush. |

13When the maps are dry, add details with an edible pen. |

14Create a buttercream dome on the cupcake and then dip it into a bowl of light brown sugar until completely covered. |

15Scrape the sugar off of the centre of the cupcake and pipe a small blob of buttercream there to stick the dry map to. |

16Create a flag shape from card and use it as a template to cut flags out of thinly rolled paste with a scalpel. |

17Cut skull and crossbones out of thinly rolled white modelling paste and stick onto the centre of the flags. Pipe a buttercream swirl onto the cupcake and place the flag on top, positioning it so it looks like it’s moving. |

18When the maps are dry, add details with an edible pen. |
