The spookiest holiday of the year means it's time to think about Halloween cupcake ideas, so Cake Decoration & Sugarcraft has teamed up with Wilton to help!

This season brings a fabulously fun excuse to decorate monster cupcakes for family and friends. Each of the five designs has a silly or scary personality. What fun it will be to match the cupcakes to your favorite trick-or-treaters!

You will need

Edibles

  • 960g (4 cups) sponge mix or recipe
  • 1.2kg (5 cups) Wilton decorator white icing
  • Icing colours: Wilton Color Right Colour Performance System
  • Wilton black icing tube
  • Wilton white icing tube
  • Wilton candy eyeballs
  • Wilton large candy eyeballs

Equipment

  • 12-hole standard muffin tin
  • 25 x 40cm (10 x 16in) cooling rack
  • standard baking cases white
  • Wilton disposable decorating bags
  • Wilton 4-pc. coupler ring set
  • Wilton star decorating tip 18
  • Wilton round decorating tip 3
  • Wilton specialty decorating tip 233
  • Wilton round decorating tip 10
  • Wilton angled palette knife

To tint your icing – use Colour Right base colours and QuickCount colour formulas to tint the following shades

  • spring blue: 480g (2 cups) white icing plus 5B and 1BR
  • summer green: 480g (2 cups) white icing plus 30Y and 2R
  • bright and bold orange: 480g (2 cups) white icing plus 16O plus 16Y and 2R
  • bright and bold pink: 480g (2 cups) white icing plus 10R and 6P

Instructions

For the blue and orange monster cupcake

Prepare sponge following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in cupcake cases. Pipe black icing tube and tip 10 to pipe icing on top of cupcake.

Smooth icing with palette knife to create a mouth.

Use orange icing and tip 233 to pipe pull-out fur around edge of mouth.

Use blue icing and tip 233 to pipe pull-out fur between orange icing.

Use white icing tube and tip 3 to pipe pull out dot teeth along bottom edge of mouth.

Use white icing tube and tip 3 to pipe pull out dot teeth along top edge of mouth.

Position two candy eyeballs on the cupcake.

For the pink one-eyed monster cupcake (star tip)

Prepare sponge following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in cupcake cases. Pipe black icing tube and tip 10 to pipe icing on top of cupcake. Smooth icing with palette knife to create a mouth. Use pink icing and tip 18 to pipe pull-out stars around edge of mouth.

Cover top of cupcake with piped pink icing pull-out stars.

Use white icing tube and tip 3 to pipe pullout dot teeth along bottom edge of mouth.

Use white icing tube and tip 3 to pipe pullout dot teeth along top edge of mouth.

Position one candy eyeball.

For the orange one-eyed monster cupcake

Prepare sponge following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in cupcake cases. Use black icing tube and tip 10 to outline mouth on top of cupcake. Fill in center of outline with black icing.

Smooth icing with palette knife.

Use orange icing and tip 233 to pipe pull-out fur around mouth.

Use orange icing and tip 233 to cover remaining area on top of cupcake with pull out fur and position one candy eyeball.

For the green monster cupcake

Prepare sponge following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in cupcake cases. Use black icing tube and tip 10 to pipe mouth on top of cupcake.

Use green icing and tip 18 to pipe stars around mouth.

Use green icing and tip 18 to cover remaining area on top of cupcake with pull-out stars.

Use white icing tube and tip 3 to pipe pullout dot teeth along bottom edge of mouth and position both candy eyeballs.

For the blue multi-eyed cupcake

Prepare sponge following recipe instructions. Bake and cool cupcakes in cupcake cases. Use blue icing and tip 233 to pipe continuous swirls of icing on top of cupcake.

Position candy eyeballs.
