Isomalt is very popular for cake decorators looking to add colour and dimension to their edible decorations. These pretty isomalt hearts are surprisingly simple to create and make the perfect toppers for wedding or Valentine’s Day cupcakes. Tutorial by Culpitt.

1Roll out your Gold metallic paste, Red modelling paste and Baby Pink modelling paste. Select the open heart shape from your Push Easy Cutters set then cut and emboss the desired amount of hearts from the rolled out pastes. |

2Using two suitable containers, melt two portions of isomalt until runny. Add a small amount of Poppy Red dust to one container and a small amount of Blush dust to the other. For full dispersion of the colour, mix well then re-heat and mix again. |

3Make sure your isomalt is hot and runny before using a small palette knife to fill the centre of the open heart. Lay your heart on a smooth plastic cutting board and, in small amounts at a time, pour the isomalt into the centre. Gently move the isomalt around until the open heart is completely filled. |

4Repeat Step 3 with both colours and allow to cool. Once cooled, gently remove each of them from the cutting board with a small palette knife. |

5Mix up your buttercream and add a small amount of White dust. |

6Pipe your mixed white buttercream onto your cupcakes, lightly spritzing each with the House of Cake Glitter Pump Sprays. |

7To finish, top each of your piped cupcakes with an isomalt heart decoration. |
