How to create the texture of sand on sugarpaste!

Follow this quick and simple guide to create the texture of sand on sugarpaste and once learnt you'll be able to use the technique again and again on all your future seaside cake decorating projects!

You will need

Edibles

  • Sugarpaste covered cake
  • Cream and chocolate dust (Rainbow Dust)

Equipment

  • Clean stiff bristle brush (such as a scrubbing brush or a nail brush)
  • Tin foil
  • High percentage alcohol

Instructions

Add sand texture to the lower section of your sugarpaste covered cake using a clean stiff bristle brush and scrunched up tin foil.

Lightly sponge the sane texture with a cream watercolour made using cream dust mixed with high percentage alcohol. If you are using a cake board, cover the cake board with sugarpaste and repeat steps 1 and 2 to add texture.

Add shading and depth to the sand with dry dusts in sandy tones such as cream and a hint of brown and using a paintbrush.
