Woodland cupcake toppers

Combine the two, and bam - an instant treat that'll go down brilliantly! Here, Penny the Bee has shared her wonderful tutorial with us, where you'll learn how to create the owl, deer and racoon toppers.

Equipment

• White sugar florist paste
• Black, Green, Brown, Honey gold, Sky Blue, Red, Orange and Yellow edible paste colours
• Round cutter 5cm
• Round cutter 4cm
• Round cutter 2cm (for the owl only)
• Round cutter 1cm (for the owl only)]
• Edible glue
• Bone tool
• Rolling Pin
• Mini palette knife

Making the owl

1. Colour two balls of your white sugar florist paste, one with the sky blue paste colour and the other one with the brown paste colour. Roll out a thick layer of your blue sugar florist paste and brown florist paste. Cut out a blue circle using your 5cm round cutter to create the base. Cut out a brown circle using your 4cm round cutter to create the face of your owl.
2. Now, with the same 4cm round cutter, cut out only one side of the brown circle as shown in the picture
3. You will now have a ‘half-moon’ shape. Glue the half-moon shape on top of the light blue circle.
4. Now, roll two pieces of your brown florist paste into two sausages. Lightly flatten one end of both sausages
5. Using some edible glue attach the two sausages on both corners of the half-moon shape and cut the ends with a scissor, to obtain the result as shown in picture.
6. With your 2cm round cutter cut two white circles out of your white sugar florist paste. Set aside. Make a small white sugar florist ball and colour it with some honey gold edible paste colour. Using your 1cm round cutter cut out two honey gold circles.
7. Glue the white circles and the honey gold circles on your owl’s face as shown in picture. If you’d like to make some feathers, simply make some tiny sausages shapes with your brown sugar florist paste and curl them with your hands. Attach them on top of the owl’s face.
8. Make two small balls with your black sugar florist paste and attach them on top of the honey gold circles. To make the beak, colour a small ball of your white sugar florist paste using some edible orange paste colour. Now make a tiny sausage shape with your orange sugar florist paste and curl one end of the sausage. Attach the beak in between the eyes.

The Deer

• To make the deer simply repeat the same process you have followed to make the fox, only with different colours and a pair of horns on top of the deer’s head.

The Racoon

1. Repeat the same process you have just followed to make the fox. Simply start by colouring your white sugar florist paste with a bit of yellow paste colour. Now, roll out a piece of it and create your base by cutting out a circle using your 5cm round cutter.
2. Now make a ball with your white sugar florist paste and colour it in grey, combining the white paste with the black one. Roll out the grey ball you have just made and cut out one or two circles using the 4cm round cutter to create the face of your racoon. With a bit of edible glue, attach the grey circle on top of the yellow bigger circle you made in step 1.
3. Roll out a piece of a darker grey sugar florist paste. Cut out a circle using the 4cm round cutter to create the cheeks. Now, proceed by following the steps using to make the cheeks of the fox. You have now obtained two exact shapes as shown in the picture. Attach them with some edible glue on top of your grey circle as in picture to create the dark grey cheeks of your racoon.
4. To create the ears, take two small pieces of your grey florist paste and with your fingers make two drop shapes.
5. Using your bone tool, flatten down the ears starting from the top and then press down towards you.
6. Place a small ball of dark grey sugar florist paste in both indents you’ve just created with your bone tool. Using your bone tool, flatten down the small white balls in the same way as you did when creating the ears. Now cut out the lowest part of your ears in order to achieve a perfect finish. With your fingers, pinch the two lowest parts together.
7. Using some edible glue attach the ears to the sides of your racoon face.
8. Now to make the eyes and nose, just colour a small piece of white sugar florist paste using your black paste colour. Make two tiny black balls for the eyes and one a bit bigger for the nose. Attach them with some edible glue.

And there you have it - adorable woodland creature cupcake toppers! You could even spray some edible glitter on your woodland cupcakes to make them even more enchanted.
