Cake decorating trends 2020
Colour trends
The coming year is seeing tones of blue making a huge impact, after the ever-popular Farrow & Ball Hague Blue. Colours are an important factor to think about when beginning your cake decorating.
Metallics
When looking at colour, metallics play a huge part. This year, rose gold has been playing a much smaller part in the metallics family, and in 2020 will be fading out even more. Gold, silver and copper are much bigger players, and using them in a mixed metal way in particular. This might be for one stand out tier on a wedding cake, or for the whole design.
Grazing tables

New for this year, the grazing table! This is going to be seen at many weddings and parties, and you may think this isn’t cake decorating – but there is an art of decorating involved! The key is for the abundance of goodies to look thrown together, but in a precise manner! As part of your dessert table, doughnuts and macarons are also playing a big part alongside the main event cake.
Displays

A huge trend this coming year is part of decorating the actual cake, the display of the cake. Hexagonal frame, geometric shapes, shabby boxes instead of cake stands… this completes your look.
Foliage

Foliage has been a part of cake decorating for some time, but there is a shift in what to use/make. Fern is replacing eucalyptus and gypsophilia, particularly on wedding cakes against crisp white cakes.
Sprinkles

Sprinkles are not just for children’s cakes! This year sprinkles are back in a big way, in all shapes and sizes. Appearing as part of a drip or covering the entire cake.

Making an appearance in 2019, the fault line style is set to become the new drip cake – you will be seeing the is style a lot in all occasions!
