9th Jan 2017

How soon will our beloved Bake Off be back on our screens?

WARNING: Embargoed for publication until 00:00:01 on 16/08/2016 - Programme Name: The Great British Bake Off 2016 - TX: n/a - Episode: n/a (No. n/a) - Picture Shows: **NOT FOR PUBLICATION BEFORE 00:01 HOURS TUESDAY 16TH AUGUST 2016** (L-R) Rav, Tom, Kate, Lee, Val, Candice, Benjamina , Michael, Selasi, Jane, Andrew & Louise - (C) Love Productions - Photographer: Mark Bourdillon We're holding our emotions back but Love Productions are believed to have already started casting sessions to find replacements for judge Mary Berry and hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, who stepped down following the news of the change in broadcasters.

“Channel 4 and Love Productions who produce the show are keen to have a package ready to go as soon as possible,” a show insider said.

They continued: “Casting starts today with all applications for the eighth series having been sent in over the last month and as well as wanting to know about any criminal convictions or emotional family stories in the questionnaire, contenders for filming are being asked when they could film over a summer block of weekends". One source told the Sun: "Ultimately hands are tied by contracts but there’s no doubt viewers want more Bake Off back in their lives and won’t like having to wait an extra year to get it,”. Meanwhile, Love Productions are said to have also begun their search for the next batch of amateur bakers as well as their availability to film a series over the summer. If all is true, The Great British Bake Off could potentially be back on our screens sooner than we thought. However the BBC might still have their say, as there's rumoured to be a clause in the contract which could stop any news episodes being aired until next year – that's just cruel.
