The Iconic Beatles album cover, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, has been transformed into a colourful character topped cake to mark its 50th anniversary.
The famous album cover, which includes more than 40 individual handmade characters has been immortalised in cake, cream and icing by baker, Adam Cox of Adams Cakes.
The creation took over 150 hours to make and 10kg of flour, sugar and icing, and sees Paul, John, George, and Ringo joined by a number of famous faces from the original Peter Blake and Jann Haworth designed artwork.
Taking inspiration from the hugely popular album, the coloured and black and white royal icing characters sit on top of a victoria sponge base.
Continuing his alternative take on bakery, Adam looks to inject some rock and roll into the typically traditional and reserved pastime of baking, and has previously made celebrity commissioned cakes for some of the world’s most famous musicians and sports stars.
Head Baker, Adam Cox said: “Creating this cake was a challenge - researching, handcrafting, dressing and animating each of the 40+ famous faces was the most time consuming task. I’ve got a bit of a reputation for creating music-themed cakes and I wanted to make the anniversary of this album a proper occasion. The album is regularly on repeat in the kitchen so it was a no-brainer to celebrate it in the only way I know how to.”
The self-taught baker has been crafting for the past 10 years and has no formal training, which he believes gives his original and personalised work a unique edge. Adam has previously modelled music-themed cakes on Oasis, Morrissey, Jeff Buckley, and Suede.
