Bread and butter, lemon and lime, fish and chips, tea and cake - some things are just meant to be enjoyed together, and nothing says a true British pairing quite like a cup of tea and a slice of cake. But how do you choose between your ‘Assam’ and your ‘Darjeeeling’, or your drizzles and your sponges? To celebrate the launch of her first cake range, Mary Berry, Queen of cakes, is sharing her perfect tea and cake pairings. Classic Earl Grey X Lemon Drizzle The Sicilian Bergamot oil in a classic Earl Grey makes a delightful pairing for a zingy lemon drizzle cake. The perfect afternoon pick me up; a soothing cup of Earl Grey alongside a slice of lemon drizzle. Jasmine Pearls X Delicate Rose Exotic jasmine tea is the perfect accompaniment for the Delicate Rose cake. The simple yet classic flavours of strawberry and jam with buttercream and soft icing perfectly complements the delicate flavour of jasmine without allowing it to be overpowered. This fragrant combination will transport you to a warm summer’s day… Organic Moroccan Mint X Chocolate Divine Chocolate and mint is a classic combination that works remarkably well and there’s no exception when it comes to cake. The invigorating mint flavour is magically enhanced by the rich chocolate cake, resulting in a decadent taste sensation. Red Berry and Hibiscus X Strawberries and Cream sponge cake Make the most of the delicious pairing of strawberries and cream found in this all butter cake by adding a pot of Red Berry and Hibiscus tea to create a treat that is bursting with deliciously fruity flavour. With a layer of strawberry jam and clotted cream flavour buttercream, a fruit based tea is just what you need for this. Organic X Banoffee cake The soft fruity notes of honeydew melon that feature in chamomile tea are a delight when combined with the fudgy sweetness of this banoffee cake. This combination is best served with a good book and enjoyed as you wind down after a long day. Mary Berry’s full range of nine cakes will be available in supermarkets nationwide from late spring at an RRP from £2.50.
