Starbucks launch limited-edition cookie with transgender charity Mermaids
A new cookie has been introduced into Starbucks stores in the shape of a mermaid's tail. Made of shortbread, a blue glaze and purple icing using natural colourings, the cookie is the product of collaboration with Mermaids and artisan bakery Cakehead.
Made in support of Mermaids, a charity which supports trans and gender-diverse children, young people and their families. One of the UK's leading LGBTQ+ charities, Starbucks has joined forces with them for the #whatsyourname campaign.
Recent TV adverts have been promoting the campaign, showcasing a young trans man finally see his name of a cup of coffee. The campaign is described as celebrating "the life-changing moment facing some transgender and gender diverse people as they use their new name in public".
The cookie is now available to buy from £1.89, with 50p for each sale going towards raising at least £100,000 for Mermaids, to help grow its helpline services.
People can show their support of the campaign on social media by sharing a photo of the Mermaids Cookie, while striking a 'mermaid pose' and using the hashtag #whatsyourname.
