Roll up your sleeves folks, it's starting... The Great British Bake Off rumours are beginning, and this time they're vegan!
As we all know, each week, the challenges that the contestants are set align with a different theme.
In the past, this has been everything from pâtisserie to forgotten bakes - but it's been reported that in the new series of The Great British Bake Off (GBBO), the hopeful bakers will be challenged to prepare winning bakes without using any animal products. That takes some fundamental ingredients of traditional baking out of the picture, such as milk, butter and eggs!
In the original report
, it's speculated that Noel Fielding, half of the GBBO presenting duo, put forward the idea to the show's makers. The Channel 4 source said:
"When Noel put forward the idea producers leapt at the chance to try something different — especially as they think it’ll appeal to younger viewers.
“While the show has a loyal fanbase, those in charge are keen to snap up a different demographic.”
This isn't the first time that vegan bakes have been presented for judging in the show, but the first time a week's 'theme' has been attributed to veganism - a lifestyle choice that's appearing in mainstream media more by the day.
While we're intrigued to see how the bakers deal with using alternative ingredients to make vegan-friendly treats, we're also looking forward to seeing how they're judged by Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in comparison to more traditional bakes across the board.
No matter your feelings on vegan baking, we've got all our fingers crossed that this year's Bake Off is as brilliant as the series that have come before. Roll on autumn - we can't wait for the weekly chaos to begin!
