Recently, London has become much more vegan-friendly

Previously, you had to wait for a table at the one vegan-friendly restaurant in London or bring a packed lunch to work dos. Now, however, we’ve got a host of plant-based havens – from vegan fried chicken shops to dairy-free pudding stores. And now a Knightsbridge hotel is jumping on the vegan train offering an all-new vegan afternoon tea. Afternoon teas are superb – that's common knowledge – but they've not yet been known for being vegan-friendly. All those dairy delights like cream cakes, cheese sandwiches and buttery scones pretty much exclude those trying to pursue a cruelty-free life. But the five-star Egerton House Hotel has created a completely vegan menu complete with dairy-free versions of all the regular favourites. The Egerton Vegan Afternoon Tea menu features some fine leaf teas, as well as a selection of homemade vegan cakes including iced chocolate brownies, vanilla and coconut sponges, lemon drizzle cakes, fruit and custard tartlets and vanilla cupcakes. There’ll also be sandwiches packed with things like grilled vegetables, guacamole and rocket, chickpea-coronation, cucumber and margarine and tomato and olive tapenade on sun-dried tomato bread. And of course, these tasty treats will be on offer with a range of preserves. The Egerton Vegan Afternoon Tea is £40 per person and booking is advised. This story first appeared on The Metro
