Placenta, dilation charts and water births: The Great Midwifery Cake Off winner announced

Yep, that’s right – The Great Midwifery Cake Off has returned for another year!

The Royal College of Midwives have held their annual Great Midwifery Cake Off, and have announced the winner! Held on Facebook, members of the Royal College of Midwives could enter a snap of their bakes, with the image with the most likes being crowned winner.

Student Midwife Molly Grimston from Wolverhampton University took home the £250 give voucher prize, after winning with her three-tiered cake, decorated with fondant footsteps, butterflies, and a giant flower topper – holding a sleeping baby within.

Along with Molly’s beautiful cake, it was a stellar year for entries, with some horrifically realistic cakes thrown in for good measure!
The Cake-Off competition is part of the RCM’s celebration of International Day of the Midwife. This takes place on 5th May each year, with events led by RCM members across the UK running around that date.

While you can see all the entries here, we’ve also picked out a few favourites for you…
