Delicious cupcakes with personalised messages to make them utterly unique! Learn how to make your own with this step-by-step tutorial and make your Father's Day present the best one yet… For the vanilla cupcakes (makes 12) 110g butter, softened 110g caster sugar 110g plain flour 2 tsp baking powder ¼ tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 free-range eggs For the vanilla buttercream 280g icing sugar 140g butter, softened 1-2 tbsp whole milk For the decoration Sugarpaste CMC Gel colouring Wax Rolling Pin Circle Cutter Edible Glue and brush Impressit Block and Letters Circle cutter Star Cutter Petal Base Preheat the oven to 190°C/Gas mark 5 and line a 12-hole muffin tin with brown paper cases. For the vanilla cupcakes
- Whisk together the butter, sugar, flour, baking powder and salt until smooth. Then add the eggs and vanilla extract and mix until smooth again.
- Spoon the mixture into the paper cases and bake in the oven for 20 minutes until well risen and springy to touch, then put on a wire rack to cool.
For the vanilla buttercream Sift the icing sugar and beat together with the butter and milk until smooth. For the decoration 1 Firstly, for the round plaques add a small amount of gel colouring and CMC to your sugarpaste (I have used blue and green), then roll out onto a surface slightly dusted with icing sugar. Cut out 6 circles using the circular cutter and put to one side. 2 Next, place the letters you want onto the impressit block to spell your message. I have used 'No. 1 Dad' and 'I love Dad'. Then gently push the impressit block into each of the circles. Rub a small amount of petal base onto the letters to stop them sticking to the sugarpaste. 3 Take your star cutter and coloured fondant and cut out 6 stars 4 Finally spoon your icing into the piping bag and pipe swirls on top of the cupcakes, then place your Father's Day plaques and stars on top to finish.
