Dame Esther Rantzen trustee of the Silver Stories charity has unveiled the new Thank You Cake from Patisserie Valerie.Patisserie Valerie has created a special new cake for people to show their appreciation for those who have gone above and beyond during the UK's lockdown period - and 10% of Thank You Cake sales will be donated to Esther Rantzen’s new charity, Silver Stories. Many people have come together in recent weeks during the Coronavirus crisis to support each other in communities throughout the UK and this provides an opportunity to say Thank You. The Thank You Cake can be ordered online at www.patisserie-valerie.co.uk for delivery direct from the bakery to any postcode in the UK. Silver Stories links new young readers with elderly people - many of whom who are in care homes - to enable them to read to them over the phone. The charity was created in 2015 in response to knowledge concerning the loneliness that can be felt by the elderly in the community and their often separation from the younger generation. Silver Stories has been particularly busy during the lockdown period when young people have not been able to physically visit elderly relatives for a lengthy period. The charity was created by David Carney-Haworth OBE and his wife, Elisabeth Carney-Haworth OBE. David, is a retired police sergeant and Elisabeth is a primary school head teacher. Trustees include Esther Rantzen, who previously founded the Child Line and Silver Line charities.
