It’s not just The Great British Bake Off that’s jumping on the vegan trend

Ahead of tonight’s controversial vegan week, Bake Off partner Amazon’s Get Baking Shop have released some interesting findings about the rise of veganism and how it’s influencing our traditional baking habits. The data shows that there has been over 100% increase in sales of vegan baking products year-on-year. This includes products like Free and Easy Egg Replacer’ (238%), ‘Coconut Merchant –  Organic Coconut Butter’ (215%) and ‘Vegan Easy Egg’ (115%). The research also shows that a whopping 4 in 10 Brits are likely to select a vegan or healthier ‘free from’ option when picking a cake, and almost half of us are embracing the notion of ‘healthy baking’. This means that 49% of us are opting to pop courgette in our chocolate cakes, sweet potato in our brownies, and beetroot in our cookies! While it remains to be seen how the bakers manage without some traditional baking ingredients, it seems that veganism is a trend that’s going nowhere fast.
